Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Painter who can own quality execution in the field, direct on‑site crews, and ensure every project is delivered on time, on spec, and on standard. This leader plays a pivotal role in managing workflow, ensuring production efficiency, and upholding P.A.T.C.H. across every job site.

As a Lead Painter, you will set the tone for jobsite excellence, train apprentices, maintain production pace, and ensure that every wall tells the story of our reputation.

Reports To: Project Manager

Direct Authority Over: Crew Members + Apprentices

Key Responsibilities

Production & Execution

  • Execute project scope exactly as written.
  • Maintain production pace aligned with estimated labor hours.
  • Enforce all prep standards, including surface correction, masking, and protection.
  • Maintain a clean, safe jobsite daily, following all safety protocols/PPE.
  • Conduct daily quality checks to uphold Equality Painting’s standards.
  • Uphold the company’s ZERO TOLERANCE policy for drugs and alcohol on any jobsite.

Crew Leadership

  • Assign daily tasks to crew members and apprentices.
  • Train apprentices in painting technique, professionalism, and safety.
  • Enforce company conduct, P.A.T.C.H. values, and respectful communication.
  • Manage break schedules and ensure consistent workflow pacing.

Materials & Tools

  • Confirm correct materials are on site before production begins.
  • Maintain tool condition, cleanliness, and organization.
  • Minimize waste and ensure responsible material usage.

Communication

  • Provide daily jobsite updates to the Project Manager.
  • Report potential change orders immediately.
  • Document issues with clear written notes and photos.

KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

Performance Metrics

  • Labor hours vs. estimate (Target: ≤ 5% over)
  • Rework rate (Target: < 2%)
  • Punch list completion time (Target: < 24 hours)
  • Callbacks within 30 days (Target: 0–1%)
  • Jobsite cleanliness audit score
  • Crew retention rate

Cultural Metrics

  • Consistently upholds P.A.T.C.H. values
  • No client complaints regarding conduct or professionalism

Qualifications

  • Proven professional painting experience, including cutting, rolling, spraying, and detailed prep work.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and execute written scopes of work precisely.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, ladders, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to train and guide apprentices with patience and clarity.
  • High attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.
  • Ability to work extended days when needed (up to 10 hours) and occasional Saturdays.
  • Must be able to commute to Jefferson City, MO.
